Rescuers Evacuate 270 After Primorye Floods

Emergency rescue workers have evacuated almost 270 people in Russia’s far east Primorye region after sudden floods following storms this weekend, the local Emergency Ministry said on Sunday.

Helicopters and special vehicles have been used to evacuate local residents and tourists, including children staying in a health resort, the Emergency Ministry said.

“During the course of search and rescue operations, the Emergency Ministry evacuated 266 people from a children’s health camp and resort, including 31 rescued by aviation,” the Ministry said.

At least 1500 people in ten settlements were still without electricity on Sunday following the floods, which have also damaged 14 bridges in three districts of the Primorye region.
