A six-year old girl is believed to be killed after a four-storey building of residential apartments partly collapsed late on Tuesday night in central Russia’s Vladimir Region, the country’s investigation committee said on Wednesday.
“According to the investigation, a four-storey building, accommodating 40 apartments, partly collapsed on May 17 at about 20:30 Moscow time [16:30 GMT]. A six-year-old girl died as a result of the collapse. Further information on other casualties is being verified. The building has 89 registered residents,” the committee said.
A spokesman for the regional emergencies ministry did not confirm the death of the girl saying that rescuers are still searching the debris for her.
He added that the house, built in 1928, could have collapsed because of worn-out support constructions.
Earlier reports said that a man was injured in the collapse, but having received minor injuries, refused from the hospitalization. An old woman suffered a heart attack as a result of the incident and was hospitalized.
