Retiree Ordered Hit on Daughter

A 73-year-old woman in the republic of Tatarstan in the Volga region was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail for attempting to organize the murder of her daughter over a property dispute, Andrei Sheptitsky from the republican Investigative Committee said on Thursday.

“In compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision, 73-year-old Khaniya Ziganshina was found guilty of preparing to organize a contract killing. The court orders her to serve two years and six months in a standard-regime prison,” Sheptitsky said.

The pensioner decided to hire a hitman to kill her 47-year daughter because of disputes over the flat in early 2012. However, an ex-convict neighbor she asked to help carry out the scheme, instead alerted the police.

The woman was arrested after an undercover policeman posing as the killer met to hand over photos from the supposed murder scene and receive the first part of the payment, 27,000 rubles ($900).

The retiree denies her guilt.
