Russia’s Transport Ministry to cut pilot training from 5 to 3 years

The Russian Transport Ministry has proposed cutting the civil air pilot training program from five to three years, a ministry source said on Wednesday.

The sector is faced with an acute shortage of personnel, including pilots.

Russia’s Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Savelyev said in September the airline presently requires another two years in additional training for pilots who have completed the five-year program.
