As dismay grows over the bloodshed in Syria, France has asked Russia and China not to veto a new UN security council resolution.

TONY JONES, PRESENTER: As dismay grows over the bloodshed in Syria, France has urged Russia and China not to veto a new UN Security Council resolution that will call for an end to the violence and for aid to be allowed in.

From the battered rebel-held districts of Homs, uploaded video shows the apparent aftermath of unrelenting shelling and mayhem as survivors run to help those hit.

In the ruins of this home, a bloodied child is trapped in the rubble.

Syrian tanks are now reportedly advancing into Homs where opposition forces say hundreds of rebels are engaged in fierce fighting.

Latest pictures from the city show rebels driving a captured government tank and others firing weapons.
