The Russian women’s volleyball team have grabbed a hard-fought win against Serbia in the third round of the FIVB World Grand Prix in Tokyo, Japan.
The 3-2 (25:13, 21:25,22:25, 25:17, 15:8) success comes after a day after Vladimir Kuzyutkin’s charges suffered their first loss in this year’s competition, going down to South Korea with a 3-0 scoreline.
Russia’s leader, Katya Gamova, was in top form on the day, collecting 23 points, while Serbia have made too many (23) unforced errors.
“It was certainly a difficult match and we had many problems during the match,” coach Kuzyutkin told FIVB official website. “We have to keep improving as a team and also individually. The reason why we won was because we took advantage of their problems. I don’t have any complaints with my players and if we keep our current level, it would be fine.”
Team Russia face hosts Japan in their last game in the preliminaries on Sunday, knowing they have already guaranteed themselves a place in the World Grand Prix finals to take place in China’s Special Administrative Region of Macau at the end of August.
