Russia, Belarus hold joint military exercise

A joint Russian-Belarusian military exercise started near north Russia’s port city of Arkhangelsk on Friday.

The seven-day exercises involve 12,000 personnel and dozens of tanks, armored vehicles and aircraft.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the decision to hold the drills in Russia was made “in order to reduce large-scale military activity on the border of NATO and the Union State [of Russia and Belarus].”
