Russia Calls Off Superjet Black Box Search

The search for the flight data recorder from a Sukhoi Superjet which crashed in Indonesia on May 9 has been called off at the request of Russian investigators, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said on Monday.

“The search for the flight data recorder has been stopped at the request of the Russian side. Ten Emergency Ministry workers who have been at the scene since the morning have been taken back to their base camp by helicopter,” a ministry source said.

The search operation at the site is in its final stage, the source said.

“Currently, the search operation by the Russian rescue workers is in its final stage. Everything that can be done, has been done,” the source added.

The aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder was successfully recovered last week and the voice recordings accessed.

The Superjet 100 crashed on a demonstration flight on May 9 killing all 45 on board when it flew into a steep mountain side near the capital Jakarta.
