Russia is meeting a Japanese request to send rescuers to Japan. A team of 50 is flying out, complete with supplies, three ambulances and several mobile generators. It will be working autonomously, without reliance on local infrastructure facilities.
The operation is the first of its kind in the relationship between this country and Japan.
