Russia to Sue Iran over Attempted Control of Astrakhan Port

The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) plans to sue Iranian companies which are attempting to obtain illegitimate control of the Astrakhan Port in southern Russia, the service said in a statement.

“The government commission has prohibited an Iranian company from acquiring a controlling stake of the Astrakhan Port in line with international sanctions against Iran and by an order of the Russian president,” the FAS said. “However, [other Iranian] companies performed actions to get control of port activities in violation of the previous decision by the government commission.”

The antimonopoly watchdog plans to file suits to terminate the deals of the Iranian companies which tried to gain illegitimate control of the port, which is located on the Volga River near the Caspian Sea.

FAS also said that an Astrakhan court prohibited the Russian company which operates the port from dividend payment and banned any transactions with the company’s shares.
