Russia to Take Every Effort to Return Russians Detained in Libya – Lavrov

Russia will spare no effort to return Russian nationals detained in Libya, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.

“We will continue our efforts so that Russian citizens return home,” Lavrov said.

Russian nationals Vladimir Dolgov and Alexander Shadrov who had worked for a Libyan maintenance company were detained in Libya last August for allegedly aiding the former Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi. They will have to appear before a new court hearing soon.

“This will be a third court hearing and according to our data this will not be the last one,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov said that the Russian consul in Libya would attend the court hearing.

Both Russians have been accused by the new Libyan authorities of repairing military equipment for the Gaddafi troops during the civil war in the country, which led to the overthrow of Gaddafi’s regime.
