Russia progressed to the second round of EuroBasket 2011, after winning all five of their five matches in Lithuania.
Team Russia topped Group B, beating Slovenia, which was also unbeaten going into the game, in a true thriller on Monday.
David Blatt’s men trailed from the very beginning of the match, and had the lead only once – but it happened with only two-tenths of a second remaining before the final buzzer. Sergey Monya hit the game-winning bucket for Russia to end it 65-64.
Andrey Vorontsevich was the most valuable player on the night, delivering 15 points and five rebounds for the winning team.
On the way to its unbeaten Eurobasket record, Russia defeated the national teams of Ukraine (73-64), Georgia (65-58), Belgium (79-58) and Bulgaria (98-77).
