Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is holding talks with Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, who is on a state visit to Moscow.
The talks are expected to focus on efforts to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian-majority enclave located within Azerbaijan.
Ethnic Armenian forces backed by Yerevan won control over the territory in a war that ended with a cease-fire in 1994. But Nagorno-Karabakh’s final status remains unresolved, and the situation in and around the enclave remains volatile.
Russia — along with the United States and France — co-chairs the OSCE’s Minsk Group, which is spearheading international efforts to help resolve the conflict.
Russia is also a key trading partner of Armenia, and the two presidents are also expected to discuss closer cooperation.
