Russian Deputy PM Quits Rosneft Position

Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin has resigned his position as chief of Russia’s state-run energy firm Rosneft.

A new chairmain is to be elected at the comapany’s annual meeting on June 10.

In October, President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the removal of ministers from the boards of state companies as part of his campaign to separate politics and business.

The move was announced as part of an anticorruption course, one of the key themes of Medvedev’s presidency.

Sechin, who will stay on as deputy premier, is widely seen as close to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
