Russian icons are returning home

Icons from the Moscow Andrei Rublev Museum, now exhibited in the USA, are returning to Russia in the near future, said Russian Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeyev.

It was originally planned that the exhibition of icons, sent by the museum to the USA last autumn, will be on until July.

However, last year an American court gave judgement for turning over historical  books and documents known as the Schneerson collection to the Jewish Chabad-Lubavitch movement.

This collection has never belonged to that organization and has never left the territory of Russia.

However, now there is a risk that the USA arrests the icons as a guarantee of the obedience to the court decision. For this reason the icons are coming home early.
