Russian Journalist Detained for Raft Voyage in France

MOSCOW, January 12 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian journalist was detained by police in southwest France as he attempted to across the Atlantic on a homemade raft, French media have reported.

Andrei Novoselov was picked up by the French authorities as he tried to navigate his vessel up the Tet River to the Mediterranean Sea. His plan was to head for the United States, via Spain, RTL reported Saturday.

This is Novoselov’s second attempt to make this voyage. The previous attempt in August ended in his arrest. Novoselov told reporters that he wanted political asylum in France but his application had been refused.
