A Russian mountaineer fell to his death in Tajikistan while trying to scale one of the peaks in the Pamir Mountains.
He plunged some 40 meters at an altitude of 4,600 meters.
Tajik authorities have recovered his body and are preparing it to be sent home.
The country is home to the highest mountain range in the former Soviet Union. The peak of Krupskaya, where the accident took place, is 6,000 meters high.
The Pamir are very popular among mountain climbers around the world. Some complain rescue operations there often take a dangerously long time.
