Russian Olympic Winners to Get State Awards

Members of Russia’s national Olympic team will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to receive state orders on Wednesday, the Kremlin press service said on Tuesday.

More than 170 people, including 82 athletes, as well as coaches and sports officials were invited to attend the ceremony in the the Alexander Hall of the Great Kremlin Palace.

“The president will bestow the Order For Merit to the Fatherland, the Order of Honor and the Order of Friendship on gold medal winners,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

Russia won 82 medals (24 gold, 26 silver and 32 bronze) during the 2012 Olympic Games in London, more than during the previous Summer Olympics in Beijing. However, it slipped to the fourth place in the official medal count behind the United Kingdom.
