Russian Parachutist Dies After Accident in U.S.

Russian sport parachute champion Irina Sinitsyna died in hospital in Moscow on Tuesday, her brother Boris Sinitsyn told RIA Novosti, after an accident during a jump last week in the United States.

“She died this morning,” he said, adding she will be buried in Moscow’s Vostryakovsky Cemetery.

A World and European Record-holding free-faller, Sinitsyna suffered a collision last week during a hundred-person formation world-record jump at Perris Valley airfield, California involving skydivers from many nations.

She became tangled in her strops and was unable to fully open her reserve by the time she hit the ground, her friend Tatyana Zharova said. She was knocked unconsious and suffered spinal injuries. No one else was hurt in the accident.
