Russian Police Find Artillery Shells in Forest

Police in the Kuzbass town of Yurga found 200 boxes of artillery shells and explosives in a nearby forest, a law enforcement source said on Wednesday.

Yurga has a military training ground where ammunition disposal is carried out, but the local authorities could not say whether the shells came from the site.

“Almost 600 rounds [were found there]. You could load a truck with these boxes. It is still unknown why they were kept there,” a local authority source said.

“A small forest fire in this place would be enough to set off a powerful explosion,” the Kuzbass authorities later said.

The ammunition was handed over to a military engineering unit for disposal.
