Cadets from Russia’s Central Military District army training unit will develop underwater tank driving skills during a drill which kicked off in Sverdlovsk Region on Thursday, the information center for the military district said.
Servicemen who are taking part in the underwater exercises passed a pre-training session where they learned how to use oxygen masks, as well as how to get out of a tank in case of accidental flooding.
A tank equipped for underwater driving can submerge at a depth of up to five meters and pass one-kilometer-wide water barriers.
“For the first time ever the actions of the tank crews will be recorded on video from three different points,” the Central Military District announced. This will help rapidly analyze the situation and fix mistakes.
During the last stage of the drill, participants will cross the Pyshma River.
