Russian trans-Atlantic expedition breaks sailing record

A team of Russian sailors has broken the record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a sailing trimaran, one of the team members said on his website on Monday.

The 12,500 kilometer expedition was also the longest unbroken sailing voyage in a collapsible trimaran in the history of sea navigation

“The unique sailing expedition finished in the Brazilian port of Fortaleza after almost five months,” team member Yevgeny Kovalevsky said.

The expedition, named Across the Oceans with Energy Diet, began in the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean in December, and ended on Monday in Brazil. It forms the third stage of a round-the-world trip led by renowned Russian traveler Anatoly Kulik.
