Russian weightlifters prove European class

Russian weightlifters have topped the medals count at the European Championships taking place in Antalya, Turkey.

­After 15 events the Russian men’s and women’s teams have jointly won five golds, two silver and four bronze medals.

David Bedzhanyan, Ruslan Albegov as well as Oksana Slivenko, Olga Zubova and Tatiana Kashirina were the athletes who won gold.

Besides topping the +75Kg category, Kashirina also repeated the world record of  328 kilograms, which was set by Zhou Lulu from China in November last year.

Azerbaijan ended second in the overall standings, with three golds and one bronze, while the hosts Turkey settled for third spot, having bagged two golds, three silver and three bronze medals.
