Russia’s Elena Vesnina has reached the final of the tennis tournament in the U.S. Charleston with the prize money of $721,000 up for grabs.
In her semifinal match on Saturday, unseeded Vesnina defeated 11-seed Peng Shuai of China in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
“Four weeks ago I thought I wouldn’t be able to play here. I had a serious wrist injury… I love Charleston. I’ve been coming here I think six years in a row,” the Russian was quoted as saying on the WTA Website after the match.
In the final Vesnina will meet with current World’s No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.
