Sarkisian Holds Talks With Putin In Moscow

Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Putin congratulated Sarkisian for his victory in the February 18 presidential election.

He called Russian-Armenian ties “special,” adding that Russian investments in the Armenian economy will increase.

Sarkisian said it was natural that his first foreign trip after his reelection should be to Moscow because “Russia is our strategic partner and that says it all.”

Meanwhile, opponents of the Armenian leader continue protesting what they contend was a rigged election.

The candidate who finished second in the poll, Raffi Hovannisian, has gone on hunger strike to protest the result and has filed a complaint with the country’s Constitutional Court.
