Sechin Reelected Rosneftegaz Board Chairman

Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin has been reelected as chairman of the Rosneftegaz board of directors, the company said in financial statements for the second quarter published on Tuesday.

Sechin, the energy tsar in the Russian government before Putin’s reelection as Russia’s president in spring, has been both Rosneft President and CEO and chairman of the Rosneftegaz board of directors since 2012, the document says.

Sechin already headed the board of directors of Rosneftegaz, which holds 75.16 percent of the shares of state-controlled oil giant Rosneft and 10.74 percent of energy giant Gazprom, in 2006-2011.

Sechin’s appointments have fuelled market rumors he may be behind government plans to consolidate oil and gas assets within Rosneftegaz to create an oil equivalent of Gazprom.
