A top government official has been killed in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan, police say.
Dagestan deputy sports minister Nasyr Gadzhikhanov was killed when his car was attacked by gunmen in Makhachkala, the region’s main city, late on Tuesday.
Police say personal enmity or Gadzhikhanov’s work might have been behind the killing.
The troubled region sees frequent attacks on government officials and police as Moscow battles an Islamist insurgency there.
