Seven Militants Killed in Dagestan Special Operation

Six militants and a female suicide bomber were killed on Friday in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan in a firefight with security forces, Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said.

Law enforcement officers became involved in a gunfight with the group on Thursday evening after they locked themselves in a house in the village of Alburikent near Makhachkala, the Dagestan capital.

“The active phase of the operation has been completed, all the people inside the building have been eliminated. After the fire in the building is extinguished, commandos will enter the house,” a ploice source said.

According to the NAK’s statement, the bodies of six militants were found inside the house where they had sheltered. Four children were also inside the house. They have been released early in the morning.

The NAK also said another suspected militant, Saidat Yusupova, had blown herself up after she attempted to approach the law enforcers pretending she was going to surrender.

Zagra Kazimagomedova, who was among the women killed in the operation, had been a notorious recruiter for female terrorists. Dinara Buddaeva, who was also killed in the operation, had been previously charged with arms trafficking, a local police source said.

No casualties among the police were reported.

The killed militants had allegedly been involved in organizing series of terrorist attacks during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, NAK said in a statement.
