Seven police officers were injured in a shooting and explosion in Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, a district police source told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

A group of gunmen driving two cars without license plates attacked a police department in the Kyzylyurt district of the republic late on Monday night. After a brief shootout, they detonated one car near the local police department and fled in the other.

“Seven police were injured. Most of them received contusions,” the source said, adding that the blast was equal to 20 kg of TNT.

He said that an explosive device was also planted in the city and is now being defused.
