A shark attacked a man swimming near the Russian shores of the Sea of Japan and bit off both of his hands, a doctor from Primorye Territory regional medical center said on Wednesday.
“The shark attacked the man in Telyakovsky Bay near the village of Vityaz. It mauled him and bit off his hands,” the doctor said, adding that the injured had been taken to a hospital in serious condition.
An ichthyologist from the Institute of Marine Biology in the Far East said the shark attack was most likely related to feeding grounds as anchovies move towards shallower waters to warm themselves, though this usually occurs at the beginning of summer.
There is now further information about the fate of the shark.
