Siberian Catholic Cathedral Roof Damaged by Snow

NOVOSIBIRSK, March 4 (RIA Novosti) – A snowfall followed by a rapid thaw has damaged buildings in the city of Novosibirsk, including a local Catholic cathedral, a church representative said on Monday.

No-one was injured when part of the city’s Catholic Transfiguration Cathedral collapsed under the heavy load of melting snow.

About two or three meters of the edge of the roof fell off, a local eyewitness told RIA Novosti.

“The collapse was not inside the church,” the cathedral’s representative told RIA Novosti on Monday.

Emergency Ministry officials earlier reported that the snow also damaged the roof of a two-story residental building built in 1936. Locals people have also been complaining on the social networks about falling chunks of snow and ice damaging cars.
