KHABAROVSK, August 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Six wildfires are burning on 108 hectares in the Russian Far East, the Far Eastern Forestry Department told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“There are three wildfires in Yakutia, two taiga fires in the Amur region and one in Kamchatka. There are no wildfires in other constituents of the Far Eastern Federal District,” the department said.
In all, the Russian Far East has had 1,750 wildfires this season on the total area exceeding 919,000 hectares, among them 720,200 hectares of forests. The damage was the largest in Yakutia: wildfires destroyed over 635,000 hectares of the taiga.
“The majority of wildfires in the Far East were caused by the human factor,” the regional emergency situations department said. It recommended restrictions on the access to forests in hot and dry weather. The restrictions were imposed in 19 municipalities of Yakutia and some districts of the Khabarovsk territory.
