Russian Premier League side FC Tom who experience sever financial shortages, has warned about swindlers trying to cash in on the club’s troubles.
The statement on Tom’s official website says they have nothing to do with text messages that the residents of Tomsk have been receiving recently asking for help for the city’s only team.
“If you’ve got a message on behalf of FC Tom on your phone that requests you to support the club and send any amount of money to its account, call back or reply – don’t do this. It’s from crooks trying to use the difficulties in the club to their advantage,” the statement said.
Tom has been seriously lacking funds for the last two years. Last week, club president Sergey Ilinykh said that the state of things has become critical and the team’s participation in the upcoming home league games is in question.
Tom currently sit 13th in the Russian Premier league, having earned 20 points in 22 games.
