Spartak manager Karpin quits club

 

Valery Karpin has stepped down as manager of Spartak Moscow, the club said on Monday.

Spartak have gained only 4 points from five games this season and sit one from bottom of the Premier League. He club also recently crashed to a 10-3 aggregate defeat to Porto n the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Karpin, who took on the job in August 2008, will stay on as general director of the club and will lead the team out for the last time on April 20 in a cup match against Krasnodar.

Former Dynamo Moscow trainer Andrei Kobelyev is rumored to be in line to take over at Spartak.
