Fresh lava rivers are flowing down the southern slopes of Hawaii’s most active volcano after a new eruption was registered on Wednesday at 22.20 local time (Thursday 00:20 GMT).
The Hawaiian Volcano laboratory gave assurances that Kilauea, whose chain of eruptions have lasted almost three decades, posed no danger to a nearby settlement because its lava flows remain within the boundaries of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Kilauea has several eruption fissures and the current opening is 800 meters from the Kamoamoa fissue that erupted in March. In addition, a small amount of lava spilled out of Puu Oo crater last week.
Kilauea is considered to be one of the world’s most active volcanoes and has been erupting constantly since January 2, 1983.
