The Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman has rejected a proposal from the opposition coordination council known as the Wise Men that he sideline Hosni Mubarak to a nominal figurehead role and start acting himself as president. In the period to the next presidential elections in September, the country would be run by an interim administration of independent politicians and technocrats.
