Suspect in Turk Murder Held in S. Russia

ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 17 (RIA Novosti) – Police have detained a man suspected of organizing an ultranationalist march in southern Russia that led to the murder of a young Turk, the Investigative Committee said on Thursday.

The body of a 19-year-old Turkish man was found on May 6 in the central part of Rostov-on-Don. Investigators believe he was assaulted, beaten and stabbed by a group of radical nationalists.

Three suspects have been detained, said Stanislav Kovalyov, deputy head of the Investigative Committee, Rostov Region Directorate. One of the three is thought to be the march organizer.

A total of about 15 men participated in the march, chanting nationalist slogans and singing songs inciting ethnic hatred, Kovalyov said.
