BRYANSK, August 20 (Itar-Tass) — The traditional Svensk Fair will be held near Bryansk on Saturday.
As the press service of the regional administration reported, more than 350 agricultural and industrial enterprises of the region, as well as over 50 participants from neighbour regions of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus will take part in the fair. Besides, an exhibition of enterprises of the agro-industrial complex and new goods will be organized here. A broad entertainment programme is also envisaged.
As deputy head of the region Nikolai Simonenko said on the eve of the fair, 1.5 million roubles were allocated for its holding from the regional budget. Funds of sponsors are also attracted.
The fair was held in the settlement of Suponevo near the walls of the Svensk Monastery since 16th century and existed until 1911. More than 70 years later, the Svensk Fair was held twice – – in 1985 and 1986. After a 20-year break, the fair was revived in 2005 on the initiative of governor of the Bryansk Region Nikolai Denin. The revived fair is annually visited by up to 60,000 people.
