Timoshenko’s supporters put up tent camp near court building

KIEV, August 6 (Itar-Tass) —— Supporters of Ukraine’s former Prime Minister and leader of the Batkivshchyna party Yulia Timoshenko, who was taken into custody late on Friday on office abuse charges, have put up a tent camp of about 30 tents in front of the Pechersky District Court in Kiev.

According to earlier reports, Batkivshchyna leaders have called for an indefinite protest action near the court building. “We call on everyone, who might not support Timoshenko but who advocates democracy and human right, to come to the Pechersky Court building,” the party said in an address.

Light green tents near the court building have signs reading “public reception offices” of lawmakers with Timoshenko’s bloc. More tents, white in colour and depicting red hearts, an emblem of Timoshenko’s party, are placed along Kiev’s central street Kreshchatik. All neighboring buildings are dappled with posters reading “Yulia, we are with you!”

The tent camp and the entire quarters are cordoned by police. Signs on black-window police busses read: “guards of honour.”
