Nicholas II, in one of the last photographs taken of him, posing at Tsarskoye Selo in March 1917. Ninety-six years ago today, on March 21, 1917, Tsar Nicholas II and his family were placed under house arrest in Tsarskoye Selo. Nicholas, who had abdicated the throne earlier that month, was executed with his family a year later.
