Toney to try turning lights out for Lebedev

The former World Champ in six weight divisions, James “Lights Out” Toney, is to become the next test for Russia’s top cruiserweight boxer Denis Lebedev.

The American has signed a contract for the bout to take place at the Megasport arena in Moscow on November 4.

Forty-three-year-old veteran Toney made his comeback to the ring in February by defeating another experienced fighter, Damon Reed, in a 10-round match.

The US boxer (73-6-3, 44 KOs), well-known not only for his great defense, but also his big mouth, has huge plans on his return.

“I’m calling it ‘Lights Out in Russia’ because he’s just the first one I’m going to whip,”
he told Boxingscene.com. “After I beat up this Ledbedev, I’m going back to heavyweight after the one too afraid to fight the Klitschko sisters – [WBA title holder Aleksandr] Povetkin.”

Lebedev will enter the bout after brutally knocking out of another American icon of the past, Roy Jones Jr., back in May.

Toney is expected to arrive in Moscow on September 22, and first look into his opponent’s eyes the next day in one of malls in the center of the Russian capital.
