Transport, Service Prices Fixed for Sochi Olympics

MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian government has fixed ticket prices for transport services to the southern resort city of Sochi in the run-up to the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games there in February and March next year, according to a document signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The decree, published on the Kremlin’s website Thursday, fixes prices for plane and train travel to and from airports and railroad stations in the local Krasnodar Territory starting November 1 until April 16, 2014.

The cost of inner-city transport, shipping, and laundry and dry-cleaning services in Sochi will also be frozen between January 7 and April 16.

Sochi’s mayor Anatoly Pakhomov proposed freezing plane and train prices for the Games last March, citing fears that higher prices would discourage potential attendees from making the journey.

Currently, a roundtrip Aeroflot ticket from Moscow to Sochi costs around 9,000 rubles ($280).
