Two killed as Russian fighter crashes near Paris

Two people were killed when a Russian fighter crashed to the east of Paris, French Radio Europe 1 reported on Monday.

The World War II vintage Yakovlev Yak plane, with a pilot and one passenger on board, crashed Sunday evening in the Seine-et-Marne area. Their identities have not been disclosed.

It was not immediately known what caused the crash or which model Yak they had been flying.

The Normandie-Niemen Group equipped with the Soviet-made Yak-3 won almost 100 of their 273 air battles against Nazi Germany’s Luftwaffe.
