Two Killed in Light Plane Crash Near Moscow

MOSCOW, June 9 (RIA Novosti) – A small plane crashed in the Moscow Region on Sunday, killing two, including a retired Russian Air Force officer, a police source said on Sunday.

The plane was on its training flight near the Shevlino airfield, in the Solnechnogorsky district, to the north-west of Moscow, when it got into a spin and crashed, and caught fire.

Media reports said on Sunday a retired Lt. Col. Sergei Vasilyev, of Russia’s famed Strizhi Aerobatic Display Team, was killed in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.

Last Sunday, a pilot of the Extra 330 light plane was killed in a similar accident near the Gryzlovo airfield, in the Serpukhovsky district, to the south of Moscow, local emergencies said.
