U.S. State Department spokesman resigns over Manning statement

U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley has resigned over his statements targeting the country’s defense ministry. U.S. media reported that Crowley had publicly described as “stupid” the Pentagon’s treatment of serviceman Bradley Manning, accused of leaking classified documents of American diplomats to the Wikileaks site. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced having accepted Crowley’s resignation.

A former analyst with the U.S. Army, Bradley Manning is now imprisoned at Quantico Marine Corps base in Virginia.

In January, his lawyer filed a complaint, protesting his client’s solitary confinement. The Pentagon denied the latter, insisting that Manning was only eating and resting separately from the other prisoners, and has no access to the common room with TV.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, some media reported that the serviceman was being kept in his cell stripped naked.
