Ukraine’s Tymoshenko calls Kuchma trial ‘bluff’

Ukraine’s opposition leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, has described as a “bluff” the prosecution of former president Leonid Kuchma over the 2000 murder of an investigative journalist.

Ukrainian prosecutors on Tuesday accused Kuchma of giving orders to former interior minister Yuri Kravchenko to eliminate journalist Georgiy Gongadze. In secret tape recording released shortly after Gongadze’s decapitated body was found in a forest near Kiev, Kuchma was heard ordering Kravchenko to “deal with” Gongadze.

Writing on her Twitter account on Tuesday, Tymoshenko said: “This is bluff and window-dressing” also saying that it would “come to nothing.”

Kravchenko reportedly committed suicide in 2005.
