KIEV, Aug 10 (PRIME) — Ukrainian telecommunications company Ukrtelecom plans to hold the first round of an auction to sell mobile assets in late August or early September, the companys CEO Georgy Dzekon told reporters Wednesday.
The operator has received more than five bids from companies interested in Ukrtelecoms mobile assets, Dzekon said, adding that candidates include both Ukrainian and foreign companies.
Ukrtelecom shareholders approved selling mobile assets at an annual general meeting (AGM) in June.
Ukrtelecom provided mobile services under the Utel brand to 674,000 subscribers as of late March, the company said in April. The company is currently the only operator to provide third generation (3G) mobile services in Ukraine. The company launched 3G operations in late 2007.
Ukrtelecom, controlled by Austrian investment company EPIC, is the dominant fixed-line telephony and Internet operator in Ukraine, providing services to more than 10 million subscribers, according to the companys data.
