Ukrainian club stimulates scoring with beer

The bosses of Ukrainian football club Obolon have promised to present 100 liters of beer to each player who scores in the team’s upcoming match against Metalist Kharkov in the home league.

The Kiev side are sponsored by one of the country’s largest beer, alcohol and soft drinks manufacturers and are known under the nickname of the “Beer-Brewers”.

And they also remain the only team in the Ukrainian Premier League, who are yet to score their first goal of the season.

Obolon sit in the relegation zone after five games, having drawn two of their matches and losing the rest.

The Kiev team face third-placed Metalist on Saturday to reveal the effect beer has on goal scoring.
