KHABAROVSK, Russia — Dozens of vendors in Russia’s Far East have demonstrated to demand an improvement in the region’s investment climate and a reduction in mandatory insurance fees, RFE/RL’s Russian Service reports.
According to the local police, more that 120 people took part in today’s protest in the city of Khabarovsk.
The picketers gathered in Khabarovsk’s central square holding placards saying “We Are Tired Of Overcoming Barriers!” and “We Demand A Return To The 2010 Level of Insurance Fees!”
The picketers said their demands have nothing to do with politics. They said a similar protest will be held by local vendors in another Russian Far East city, Vladivostok, on May 23.
The protests are being held ahead of Russian Entrepreneurs’ Day on May 26.
