Videos seized by U.S. special forces during the operation to kill Osama bin Laden indicate that the al Qaeda leader still managed strategic and tactical control of the terrorist organization, intelligence officials told a Pentagon briefing on Saturday.
Bin Laden was killed on May 2 in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, north of the capital Islamabad, during a raid by U.S. Navy SEALs. The al Qaeda terrorist network confirmed the death of its leader.
The undated videos make clear bin Laden “remained active in al Qaeda terrorist propaganda operations,” CNN quoted an unnamed senior intelligence official as saying.
Bin Laden’s elimination sparked a row inside the Pakistani security forces. The country’s leadership has ordered an investigation to determine how the world’s most infamous terrorist was able to live within the country unnoticed. Islamabad has dismissed the allegations about being aware of bin Laden’s whereabouts.
